Over the course of Tony Bennet’s tenure as the head coach of the Virginia men’s basketball team, the Cavaliers have emerged as one of college basketballs top programs, but this past season did not go as planned. Unfortunately, after a stellar 2018 regular season that propelled UVA to the number 1 overall ranking, the Cavaliers made history by being the fist 1 seed to loose to a 16 seed.
With this being said, their is a lot of optimism in Charlottesville for this upcoming season. UVA returns much of last years roster that includes All American candidates Kyle Guy, Ty Jerome, and Deandre Hunter. According to Jerome, “we can’t avoid our past, but we are working harder than ever to make sure that it never happens again”. Their is little doubt that the cavaliers will field a quality team and win a lot of games, but can they win in the postseason?
Each season people doubt UVA, and each season the cavaliers prove their naysayers wrong. At least that is the case in the regular season. Their is a belief among some basketball fans that the Cavaliers can’t win with their style of play, but I don’t think that is the case. Its only a matter of time before Tony Bennet’s team finds success in the NCAA tournament. With all the talent returning and another year of experience for their star players, the question is whether or not 2019 is the year the Cavaliers.
